The City of Oconomowoc has 20,119 residents, up 10.5 percent since 2020, a median household income of $106,425, 69.1 percent homeownership and a median home of $394,500. Its housing is unusual in the county: a median year built of 1982, but 20.4 percent of its 8,025 units built since 2010, the highest post-2010 share of any municipality with more than 5,000 units, alongside 15.5 percent built before 1950 (ACS 2020–2024). New subdivisions and an old core in the same city. The Town of Oconomowoc around it has 8,849 residents, a median income of $114,782, 85.5 percent homeownership, a median home of $466,300 and a 1979 median year built with 27.4 percent of units from 2000 on.

The city’s snow-removal page: “Sidewalks and adjacent handicap ramps must be cleared of snow and ice within 24 hours after each snowfall.” “Snow may not be put into the street or across the road.” And a line no other municipality in the county prints: “Clear snow in front of mailboxes, mail may not be delivered unless there is access to the mailbox.” Winter parking is banned December 1 to March 1, 2:00 to 5:00 a.m., under Ord. 7.03(2), with a $30 fine — the shortest season and one of the shortest windows in the county, and a $30 ticket where Hartland’s is $25. The Town of Oconomowoc’s code (eCode360) skips the hour count. § 260-25: owners “shall promptly, each day, remove all snow and ice … upon the sidewalk.” § 260-26A: “No person shall cause to be deposited snow or ice from his private or public driveways or parking lots … onto any traveled portion of streets or driveways, private or public, except his own private premises.” The town’s snow policy adds a courtesy the city does not: “Operators will make every effort not to block driveways with snow in cul-de-sacs.” Every effort is not a promise, and the berm across the apron remains the homeowner’s in practice; a seasonal contract either includes the return pass or does not. Oconomowoc is one of three places in the county with a NOAA normals station that publishes snow figures (USC00476200): 39.5 inches a year on the 1991–2020 normals, identical to Waukesha’s, with 13.2 days of an inch or more and 4.2 of three or more. The storm pages add the texture. In the Groundhog Day blizzard of February 2011, Oconomowoc took 8.8 inches on the main day and 12.6 over three days while Milwaukee recorded 19.8 and Racine 23.5; that storm came off the lake and thinned inland. On March 9–10, 2023 the gauge two miles north of the city read 6.1 inches against 7.0 to 10.4 across Milwaukee County. The far-west county line at Dousman runs to 53.3 inches on its own normals. The gradient is real and it moves with the wind.
The Oconomowoc River below Lac La Belle at times approaches the state’s 395 mg/L chronic chloride standard, per SEWRPC and Wisconsin Salt Wise as reported in the Freeman on December 13, 2025. Two Oconomowoc operators the research read offer residential plowing and publish no price. The county’s single printed rate is a City of Waukesha operator’s $49 a visit, inside that city and on asphalt only; at Oconomowoc’s own 13.2 plowable days it would come to about $650 a season before salt, a shade under the $670 the Waukesha station’s 13.6 days produce.
